Election 2009

Ohio's Election is Tuesday November 3, 2009.

On October 8, 2009, the Catholic Bishops of Ohio reviewed the three pending statewide ballot issues. They have issued a Ballot Issues Guide offering issue summaries, pros and cons, reflection questions and position statements.

Voters are encouraged to study, pray and reflect upon these statewide issues, and to keep in mind Catholic social teachings on care for people, care for the earth, and care for justice. The Catholic Conference of Ohio believes each of these issues involves prudential decisions. Conscientious voters may arrive at differing positions on these issues. 

For your consideration, the Catholic Bishops of Ohio have chosen to take the following public positions:

Issue 1 (Ohio Bonus Pay for Veterans) Not Opposed
Issue 2 (Livestock Care Standards Board): Support
Issue 3 (Casino Gambling): Opposed

To Catholic School Students [MORE]

The state budget bill, as passed by the House and Senate and signed by the Governor, cut $59 million over the biennium in aid to students attending chartered nonpublic schools.  The cuts were in:

• Direct reimbursement to our schools (Administrative Cost Reimbursement)
• Resources and services such as guidance counselors, remedial assistance, and textbooks  (Auxiliary Services).
